Bracken has been an enigma within the Highland Cattle World. He was a tremendous sized bull bred by Robert Montague C.B.E. Sold in February 1992, for 18,000 gns to Peter Waterman, Cheshire. He disappeared from view for several years and reappeared in the autumn of 1998 when he came to Cim Fold.
In 1999, aged 9 years Bracken went on is his only outing, returning to the Royal Show. He had previously visited in 1991 winning Reserve Male Champion. To the delight of many, this ‘old man’ still showed he had star quality, winning Highland Male Champion.
Bracken was used on a selection of females within Cim Fold, he past to his progeny his strength of build - his stamp of excellent fleshing qualities, a good top line, thick loins, good depth of thigh and square hips.
Cim Fold was approached by the Highland Cattle Society to purchase Rushmore Bracken and use him as an AI bull, after much deliberation it was decided to market and sell his semen privately.
After a delay of a year due to the Foot and Mouth epidemic, Bracken was finally admitted to Cogent Beachin Stud, Alford near Chester in February 2002. He returned home in May 2002 and was back to work as soon as his halter was discarded. Bracken has been approved by DEFRA and the Highland Cattle Society for the use in the artificial insemination of cattle. To-date his straws have been successful exported and used in Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Poland and France, aswell as throughout the UK.
